Right before leaving to Mexico, I had my first below the waist wax and it was the best experience of my life. Ok, maybe not the best and yeah, it hurt like a bitch… But I definitely didn’t expect to be laughing with a womans face in my crotch...
My mom always told me how much it hurt, so I just avoided waxing all together. The difference is I have coarse hair, so it’s much more visible and even irritating for me… so I was prepared to tolerate the pain.
I had the opportunity to book an appointment at Chi Spa, with lead aesthetician Laurie. I've met this girl once and I’m literally in love with her… she made my experience not only tolerable but even enjoyable.
If you're afraid of getting waxed; there’s absolutely nothing to worry about in Chi Spa’s hands - I know, it’s easier said then done, but with some distraction, care and technique you’ll be waxing on the regular.
Follow the list of things I learned at Chi Spa and how you should prep for your first, second or even 10th wax.
INSPECT THE SPACE
Realistically, someones about to be pouring hot wax on your crotch; so if there’s anything you want to be aware of, it’s the space. I was super lucky to get referred to CHI Spa.
Open for over 15 years, as soon as you walk in your hit with a sense of relaxation, meditation music and the smell of calming essential oils. It’s almost impossible to be nervous. The more comfortable and relaxed you are, the better your aesthetician will do, so make sure to get all your insecurities out of the way - I immediately make sure everything is clean, sterile and organic
COME IN CLEAN
This is a rule that should speak for itself, but clean yourself up before the poor girl has to put her face in your crotch. At Chi Spa they offer a refreshening wipe to use while undressing. I had come prepared with my own but you can never be to cautious... like I said they do a better job the more relaxed you are, so get ready to open up.
DON'T LET YOUR HAIR GROW TOO LONG
The longer, the better, right? Apparently, not. Remember that scene in the 40 Year Old Virgin… nothing fake there.
When the hair is too long, the wax will matte it and more often than not, the hair gets stuck causing a much tougher pull. NO ONE WANTS THAT… NO ONE. Wait for your hair to grow enough to lay flat on your skin, once it is, book at appointment and get in there asap.
ONE OF THE MOST COMMON "OW" SPOTS IS ABOVE YOUR CLITORIS
This is because of how many nerve endings you have in that area. Don’t complain, life would be a lot more boring without them. On your first wax, consider leaving a landing strip if you feel like you’re gonna pussy out (literally). Laurie had us start with a bikini wax and work all the way down to half Brazilian before I called it quits. You can shave it off or leave it for next time, either way, be proud of how far you made it as a newbie.
MAJORITY OF PEOPLE HAVE ONE SIDE THAT HURTS MORE
Use this knowledge to your advantage, it most likely hurts more because there are more nerve endings. Yeah it sucks, but it definitely doesn’t have too. Just inform your partner when your home and test things out for yourself... for some reason my whole left side was way more sensitive.
WARN YOUR AESTETICIAN OF ANY SWEARING TENDENCY OF YOURS
After calling out bitch 5 times, I totally had to warn Laurie I wasn’t calling her one… it's definitely not the nicest feeling, not even top ten. So if you pick a swear word, make sure you tell the poor girl before calling her names.
If you haven’t had a wax because of fear, it’s time to jump over the hurdle and giver a go. Honestly, you’ll thank me once you do it… wearing bikinis or nothing for that matter is that much sexier; And over time, you’ll barely have to wax at all.
Book your appointment with Chi Spa here and I promise you'll be taken care of.
