THE BASICS

Reverting back to basics.

The past couple of weeks have been pretty rough. Whether it be family, exams, starting a career for yourself.. We all have our shit. For me it leads with anxiety, something that tries to take over my life and follows with a couple days of recovery. Sometimes it behaves itself, other times it doesn't... Keeping motivated can be quite hard.

Like I said we all have our shit... and we deal with it differently too. When you're stuck in the midst of a shitty situation, sometimes it's whatever higher power you believe in telling you to slow things down. I would like to send my gratitude out to all of those who helped me through my hard times and still do. It really comes back to the basic needs of life which are essential for your survival. Being strong doesn't mean you have to do it alone.

I wanted to start off with this because I have seen so many of my friends and acquaintances struggle over the past couple of months. As much as Double Tee's is something I have created on my own, without all the support and advice from my readers, it wouldn't be possible. Double Tee's is now the one thing that gets me through my day and keeps me looking forward to tomorrow. No matter what is going on in my life, I have my creative outlook to lean on and for that I thank all of you.

I couldn't help but feel like more of a basic bitch in this outfit.. Not that I didn't love the look but it totally gave off a classic 90's Rachel Green vibe. The overall outfit (see what I did there) cost me less then $60.00.. Not including the shoes of course. I try to save up for my staple pieces like a wicked pair of jeans or some hot heels.. As you know, I'm a shoe girl. But when it comes to the essentials if you see a shirt that costs more than this entire outfit.... PUT IT DOWN. We all know, trying to stabalize our lives for the next 50 years doesn't mean we can just throw money away like paper. As much as I would love that option... I DON'T AND WILL NOT JUSTIFY SPENDING OVER $100.00 ON A BLANK WHITE TEE. No way. In my mind, basic essentials like plain t-shirts, turtle necks, etc.... can be found for under $40.00. YUP YOU HEARD ME PRINCESS, all you have to do is check the quality of the piece you're about to buy... make sure it won't get destroyed in the wash (like half of my aritzia tops did) and you'll be good to go. I promise, no one will tell the difference.

I actually learned this from being in retail. First off I HATE retail... Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's stores filled with crap in 20 different colours simply to make money. FAST. Now don't get me wrong. We need places like this for our economy to survive...What I did learn is that no matter what clothing store you're in... You will see at least ONE item you would be willing to buy. Now all that matters is whether you need it, truly want it, or if it's at a good ass price. This is where I picked up my essential rule. These places simply want to make money and these places sell all the basic pieces we need. I picked up these overalls for $11.00 at Express and I LOVE THEM. Normally, I would have never walked in.. but I simply needed a job and they were hiring. Working there I saw so many little things that could add to my wardrobe, save me a shit load of cash and fuel my creativity. Now I have learned that no matter the brand, big or small... they will always carry something for your needs. All that matters is if you're willing to fall for it or not.

Trust me, I was the girl that thought brand names ruled the fashion world....they don't. If you have your creativity, you won't need the most expensive piece on the market.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to work with Duncan Thorn, a creative photographer based out of Toronto. Lately I have been going for more of a relaxed chic style. I'm not sure if it's the cold but I'm seriously lacking some motivation. So I thought this was the perfect, pick me up look. Aside from the illuminating colour of this jacket, I love the old fashioned look it gives off. Funny enough, the model who show cased it with Lamania at the National Women's Show, Madeleine Fay Heaven, was at the shoot as well. We run into each other more than you'd think at work. It's definitely nice to see familiar faces that brighten up the mood and setting of a shoot. It's interesting to see how connections made through the Double Tee's adventure are beginning to show purpose.

*Be sure to check out some of her work on Facebook.

Finding a shirt to go with a blazer is always fun, you have the ability to create so many different feels for whatever look you're going for. I love how all the colours tied together with this shirt, it created an edgy vibe and about 3 weeks after I bought it someone finally asked me what it said...

MY UNICORN BRINGS ALL THE GIRLS TO THE YARD.

First off,  it gave me the pleasure of having to explain that I'm not a lesbian (not that it'd be bad or anything...)

and second... my unicorn brings all the girls to the yard.... oh hell no!

Lesson learned. Read your shirts before you buy them to avoid people questioning your sexuality...

But in all seriousness, I really did love the comfort chic feel to this look. Although I put this outfit together with a relaxed tee, you could always dress it up with a slim pair of trousers or a funky button down.

Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try new pieces together. Some of your best outfits will come together with items you never expected to work. It was really my lip colour and shoes that completed this look for me.

A little trick of mine is to try my shoes on before I decide if I like an outfit or not. Sometime you just need a little umph to get the style you're looking for.

Creativity is intelligence having fun, be smart with your pieces and shop well.

Dream On...

Well, shits officially hit the fan and we're only on day 17. I think I give up on the whole waiting for a fresh new year to happen. When stuff is good, I'm just gonna cherish the fuck out of it. We really are the authors of our own life and when things get hard, there isn't much to do, but tough it out. Whether you're in a good or not so good place, remember what it feels like to be truly happy and put it out there in the universe. That's really all we can hope for. Dream on but don't imagine they'll all come true, right?

Wherever you are in your life, whether it be at your best or worst, we all have our struggles and it's how we deal with them that really matters.

Double Tee's is one of the best things I have done for myself. It's something that's all mine... no one helped, no one told me the "how to's". All of that was taken care of because it's something I wanted so goodly (yup, you heard me... so goodly. My mom always told me, "Chloe, I use to say I wanted to marry your dad SOO badly, and look how that turned out.... so bad").

Even though I've had a number of obstacles to overcome, I couldn't be happier to know my risk taking paid off.

And on that note, let's talk fashion.

I am more than excited for all the little projects Double Tee's has coming on the way. A couple of weeks ago the talented Anthony Cohen and I did a shoot on the versatility that comes with accessories.

I get bored way too fast, and since I don't have money falling out of my ass to buy everything I want, learning to be strategic in my styling has become quite helpful.

Altering the feel of your outfit can be quite easy if you know how to play with what you've got. This is one of my favourite accessories to add to a look. The beautiful colours and patterns of the scarf almost instantly highlight the darker pieces. This scarf has acted as a shawl, a cape, and even helped me pull of the iconic Grace Kelly look.

My favourite look of them all would have to be the head wrap. There are so many different ways you can style it..... I simply twist and pin as shown above or by adding knots to the top (giving it much more of a relaxed look).

There is so much fun you can have with creating outfits while changing the simplest of things. It's kind of like life, why wait for what you don't have, when you're dream is now.

Until next time,

Show Me Your True Colours

So, it's officially freezing out here in Toronto. I don't care how much colder it is elsewhere but I'm definitely not a fan of this weather. I shot this look a couple of weeks ago and couldn't see a better time to share it while temperatures keep dropping.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE all of these pieces. First off, those star pants.... yes, I get made fun of REPEATEDLY for wearing them and they are the comfiest freaking things I own. Plus I think they're super cool. I got them at Lamania for under $60.00 or something ridiculous like that. I wasn't about to pass them up.

Aside from my crazy pants, this vest is one of my favourite pieces we own. And when I say we, I mean I couldn't be more thankful for having my mom's closet to share from. Mi Casa es Su Casa, right?

This piece is actually an item from the boutique she works at. Located on Unionville Main St. I'm sure some of you have heard of Lou Lou's Boutique, a great place to find more of those one of a kind pieces.

It was really the mixture between the wool inside the vest and the brown leather exterior that kept me stylish and comfortable.

THANK GOD FOR A NICE PIECE TO STAY WARM IN...... (serious issue of mine.)

I had a lot of fun putting this outfit together. Mixing and matching similar materials to give it a comfy / cozy look kept me happy all day.... And god bless these shoes... I'm usually a classic black boot girl and black was definitely not going to cut it for this outfit. They're comfy as hell but my favourite parts are the grips on the bottom....... It sounds crazy, right.

But I HATE that I can't wear half of my heels in the winter because of this issue... otherwise I'd be slipping and sliding all over the place. (Some of you might find that entertaining, me not so much)

FiHair The Salon - Out With the Old

Ok, so I did something a little crazy. Not sure how you're all gonna feel about this one but lets just say.... the locks are gone.

Yup you heard me, I cut my hair.

To be completely honest, I've already fallen in love with it. I needed a change, something a little more chic. New Year, New Me, right?....yuck

Recently I have had a lot of readers ask me where I get my hair done and this would be where all the magic happens

FiHair, The Salon.

I have been going to FiHair for a couple years now and only have good things to say. Aside from a fresh atmosphere and talented hair dressers, they always know when to leave a little room for fun. Fireplace Essentials

 Happy Holidays Boys,

You really didn't think I was going to forget all about Christmas, now did you?

Well it's better late than never and over here at Double Tee's, we do Christmas a little different. Being Jewish and all, (the most non-conventional of them, I must add.), I was always given the choice to celebrate if I wanted.  But c'mon, if you are going to compare a joyful old man who leaves presents under a tree to some dreidels. Prepare to loose quickly. I have always loved the idea of Christmas... decorating, giving gifts, seeing the genuine smiles of your loved ones. It's really something beautiful.

As I grew older, being an only child, I always wished I had a big family to come together with.. still not complaining about the attention I got from my mom.....  interesting family dynamics was just something I had the pleasure of being born into.

This time of year I would normally be in Florida, where most of my family is. Although I didn't have the ability to make it there this year, I couldn't be more happy to spend it with my mom or best friend, (which ever you'd like to call it), eating some nice ass Chinese food. God, this could be a Seinfeld episode....

Double Tee's would love to know what our readers are up too for the holidays and more importantly what are you wearing???

OK OK, now that I have bored you all with my mushy Christmas post, can we talk clothes?

I teamed up with Lamania on this holiday outfit.. the minute I walked into work one day I snatched up this Eiffel Tower sweater as soon as I could get my hands on it. The detailed beading, first of all had my jaw on the ground, but secondly, I go nuts for a little quilted Chanel look.

I paired it with these great trousers, the radiating blue that comes off of them can brighten up any day. Hoping to bring some life back into the streets of Toronto, it was really the accessories that made this outfit. Other than almost freezing without them, I couldn't help but fall in love with the warm, cozy feel that came with these pieces. Nothing adds more of a 'euro-chic' feel like a little fur and glitter.

If you fell in love with these pieces as much as I did get your butts over to Lamania before they sell out. While receiving new accessories weekly, don't miss their Christmas Paris Collection.

Not having everything allows one to set standards on what their future holidays will look like.

Wishing you a very safe and happy holidays in which ever way you decide to spend them.

MITSU JCAMPBELL

A couple of weeks ago, I was on my break during Black Friday. What else was I going to do other than rampage through the mall to find myself a decent pair of shoes. With maybe 10 minutes to spare I was running around only to find the most amazing Jeffery Campbell loafers. And when I say amazing, I mean 8 hours, full day of work floating on the clouds, amazing. Im a shoe girl, its awful and I love it. But cmon, they were a great price, practical, WATER PROOF......... I couldn't say no. So I took them home and wore them everywhere......... still do.

There was something about the box that kept calling my name, it's art work intrigued me. I studied it, tried to find its imperfections, the little things that added to its beauty

Although, It was really when I opened the box, that made my jaw hit the ground. I lifted out all the paper and tissue to find a note. It read, "Hey there, I am Chloe"... A letter from a girl in New Zealand.

As she shared her love for art, fashion, music and animals, the similarities I found between this Chloe I was reading about and myself were almost in sync. She went on about her love for drawing, what inspired her and why she drew what she did . It automatically fuelled  my love to create art. Since reading about Chloe's success of her passions,  my mind has continued to race with ideas and I could not be more blessed with the experience Jeffery Campbell offered me. What they have created for their clients it more than a shopping experience, it's a way to fuel inspiration world wide.

I hope as I continue to draw, paint and expand my visions of creating art I will be able to share with my readers the same inspiration Chloe shared with me.
