The holiday times are upon us, Christmas has passed, Hanukah is on going and New Years is right around the corner. For everyone the holidays seem like a joyous occasion. Family dinners, gift giving, lots of laughter... but for some of us, the holidays can be quite lonely.
Whether you couldn't make it home for the holidays, are struggling with finances, missing a loved one, or straight up don't celebrate, we don't have to get so down.. Yup, you heard me... I too had a lonely Christmas, but that's okay cause I'm definitely not the only one
If you live for tradition, the holidays don't have to be so disheartening. There are a number of ways to join in on the celebration, even if you are alone!
Check out the list below, try one or more of these things and the holidays may not leave you so lonely.
SECRET SANTA WITH FRIENDS/ WORK
Okay so your family might not be good at gift giving, but you love showering people with presents, run a gift swap with your friends or work, if you are struggling financially, set a small budget - everyone likes getting something!
SEE HOW YOUR FRIENDS (OTHER CULTURES) CELEBRATE
I'm Jewish, so when I was young I celebrated Hanukah as well as Christmas (because what kid doesn't like Santa) but there are so many ways people celebrate during the holidays, tag along with a friend. I have had so many people invite me to their holiday occasions and it's really lovely to see other cultural and family traditions.
SPEND TIME WITH FAMILY
I know this ones kind of a no brainer, but when everything shut down during the holidays, take this time to spend with family even if you don;t celebrate. Take it from the jews, Chinese food on Christmas is the bomb... you don't even need to cook!
If you have the expenses to get away for a couple of days do so! Take a ski trip or go somewhere warm, theres no reason to mop at home when you can mop somewhere beautiful.
Whatever you love to do for yourself, do it! Go to the spa, book a treatment, get a massage. Go get your nails done girl, you deserve it. The holidays can be a stressful time for anyone.
HELP OTHERS / VOLUNTEER
